Dharwad: In a disconcerting incident, a 45-year-old female doctor residing in Girinagar, Dharwad, has fallen prey to cybercriminals, losing a staggering amount of Rs 1,79,30,000. The cybercrime police are investigating the case, which unfolded when the doctor received an unsolicited WhatsApp call from an unknown individual on November 29, 2023.
The fraudster, posing as a financial advisor, enticed the doctor with promises of lucrative returns on her investments in the stock market. Specifically, the caller suggested investing in the IPO of ‘Planet Image International Company’ for substantial profits. The doctor, swayed by the prospect, willingly joined a WhatsApp group at the caller’s behest.
